Hi,

Noted your short and specific history about your husband having left knee pain for a long time, got a shot and then swollen lower limb and pain in buttock.
Your history suggests that if he had a shot that is injection in buttock the history is suggestive of severe infection.
Hence I would advise him the following:
Rush to ER for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of blood, particularly for CBC, sugar, bleeding and clotting profiles and as suggested.
May need an antibiotic cover and an anti-inflammatory medications.
Further investigations like Ultrasonography or MRI may help further o clarify the cause of additional symptoms.
For a chronic knee pain, he need an opinion of an Orthopedic Surgeon and MRI of the affected knee to know the exact cause hence allowing a specific management as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
