Suggest Remedies For Prolonged Periods After Discontinuing Birth Control

Due to spots on my liver, my doctor suggested I cease taking my latest form of birth control. However, since then, my periods have been sporadic and unusually heavy. They can last from 2-3 weeks, break off, and then start again. Other times they're not present for months at a time. What should I do?
