Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 2 year daughter developed fever for 3times in last 1 month and every time the pattern has been increasing. There is cough while she is sleeping and cold is followed by fever every time. First time we gave carpal. Second tine we gave antibiotic as prescribed by pediatrician. Now third time we are using mephtol , acdef and cough syrup as prescribed. Just want to understand why this is the case and the recent high temperature was 104. Please let us know what is cause and precautions for this?
Fever of a few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually, rather than fever, what is important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably a viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once the viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
