My cat scratch me and I went to my doctor who prescribed sulfamethoxazole-tmp ds tab and hydrocortisone 1 % cream. I have been taking these for three days and see ver little improvement of red bumps in the scratch aarea which at times is ver, very itchy. Is there a better antibiotic or something else I could be doing? Thanks, Marsha

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

This is cat scratch disease and most of the time this is self-limited disease but if you have itchy bumps associated with lymphadenopathy. I think you should take antibiotics. But in your case you are taking Bactrima for only 3 days, so need to postpone your treatment to 5 days to see the improvement. Other alternatives are Azitromicina and Ciprofloxacini but you need a consultation with Infectious diseases Specialist and to do a serology for Bartonella henselae.

I hope my answer help you. Let me know if I can assist you further. I wish you quick recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Monika Dede
