Suggest Remedies For Severe Pain In Lower Jaw Post Wisdom Tooth Removal

I am having extreme pain in my lower jaw after removal of my wisdom tooth. I went to the dentist today because I wanted to move my follow up from Friday in order to have him take a look. I clearly see a hole and food gets stuck in it. IT IS PAINFUL! He said it looked fine and would heal on it's own. I can't take the pain!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you have a hole in the extraction area and you do not see any white tissue filling the ocket then it means that you have developed a dry socket that is unhealed and inflamed extraction socket and it is definitely a painful condition..
I would suggest you to immediately consult an Oral Surgeon or your treating dentist and get evaluated and in case of dry socket he can clean the socket with saline solution followed by betadine and hydrogen peroxide irrigations and place a zinc oxide Eugenol dressing that will help in healing as well as reduce pain due to sedative action..
Along with it antibiotics and painkillers will be advised..
You should also do cool compresses on the face and take a soft diet..
As of now take Ibuprofen or Ketorolac for pain relief..

Hope this helps..

Regards.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe pain in lower jaw post wisdom tooth removal seems to be due to persistence of infection and excessive laceration due to large amount of force and tissue loss. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit dentist and get X-ray done. Take proper antibiotic course to subside the infection. If it is leading to formation of dry socket get eugenol dressing done and do lukewarm water saline rinses. Do warm saline gargles three times a day. Maintain proper oral hygiene with antimicrobial mouthwash.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
