Suggest Remedies For Severe Pertussis

Hello,

I am 24 years old, 6'2", 280lbs. I have had a cough for approx. 4 weeks now. I went to a walk in clinic and the doctor gave me antibiotics (BiaxinXL) and cough syrup with codeine. Over the week the coughing worsened and I was coughing to the point where I couldn't catch my breath and i would throw up a little bit. I went to another walkin clinic and the doctor said I had pertussis. He gave me some puffers to help with the breathing and sent me on my way. Should the health unit be informed? Should I be quarantined from others? Is this very serious?

Thank you for your question on HCM. Pertusis is bacteriological diagnosis. If you had any bacteriological investigations like throat swab CS , sputum culture etc and if these isolate B.Pertusis than you have pertusis. In my opinion if you are properly vaccinated in childhood it is less likely to get pertusis at this age. For your symptoms you should consult pulmonologist and get done chest x ray to rule out any infection and pulmonary function test for diagnosis of bronchitis.
