Suggest Remedies For Side Effects Of Effexor

I have been on effexor- and then the generic- for about 9 years and have not had any episodes of depression and anxiety until this February. I have had 4 episodes lasting about 4-6 days. I am seeing my Psychiatrist tomorrow- I feel he does not care about me too much. I have had him for only about a year dur to a change in insurance. He put me on Rexulti last time but I freaked out and stopped taking it after I had a sleepless night and my face started moving on it s own. He has increased my effexor to 225. I have been taking 300 for the pat week or so. I am so depressed and scared I will never go back to being myself. Can you please give me some advice to ask my doctor tomorrow? Thank you so much

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If your treating doctor is giving you such a high dose of Effexor it means you are showing symptoms of severe depression & anxiety.

Effexor is an SNRI, a mood stabilizer is often added to reduce the chance of manic episodes.

Effexor is a Venlafaxine & may cause insomnia or sleepless nights. People trying to withdraw from Effexor may also experience insomnia.

Do not stop any medications prescribed, keep your treating doctor informed & discuss if your symptoms of depression & anxiety have reduced so that the medicines can be withdrawn or replaced.

To get rid with insomnia you can go for CBT, Cognitive behavioral therapy, avoid taking day time naps, keep the bedroom dark & comfortable.

If you get depressed & sad you will only add up to your problems. Stay relaxed, happy & comfortable. Avoid stress & anxiety.

Stay natural & switch to a healthy lifestyle. Stay away from addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
