Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have been experiencing weak leg muscles and I have a hard time walking up the stairs. It s almost as if my legs are not strong enough to pull me up. I m not sure what type of doctor to see regarding this and what the possible cause may be. It is getting worse in the last few months.
Weakness in legs may be caused by many problems. This may be related to nerves (nueropathy) or muscles (myopathy) or more commonly Vitamin D deficiency.
More common is nueropathy, specially if there is burning, or numbness in legs or you have history of diabetes or if backache. Myopathy is more if you have weakness in standing from sitting and aching pain in muscles.
Many people also have Vitamin D deficiency or Vitamin B12 or B1 deficiency which causes weakness. There are other causes as well. Its better you see an internalist or nueralogist for this who would access. Your GP may also be good enough to examine you and tell you the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
