Hi I had a loop diathermy just under a week ago and have since had a yellow discharge. I was told to watch out for an 'offensive smell' as a possible indicator for an infection, but I'm not sure what to expect. Please could you advise what I should look out for? Thanks a lot
After undergoing loop diathermy some amount of vaginal discharge is expected. As your doctor suggested if it is associated with foul smell it indicates infection. Usually pathological discharge will have features like associating foul smell, itching, burning, staining the undergarments, etc.
If you are having these features continued even after 4 to 5 days of diathermy, there is a possibility of pelvic infection. Using a vaginal wash with pH 3.5 to 4.5 can help in relieving the discharge to some extent. If the discharge persists better to get examine once, by taking systemic and local antibiotics the problem can be controlled.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
