Suggest Remedy For A Sore Bump On Head After Injury

My 5 year old son fell backwards off the sofa and said he hit his head on the recliner chair. He has a number on the back of his head near his neck. He was complaining/ crying about how bad it hurts and said he wanted to go to sleep. He fell asleep about half hour later and every time I touch the spot on his head he awakes and starts to fuss about not touching it. There looks to be a small blood spot and a bump. Is this a concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The bump after the injury is related to the inflammation in the area. It is completely normal and will go away gradually. In case of pain you can give your son Tylenol. I also recommend to use cold compresses for local application.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
