hi my name is silvia and i need to have an abdominal mri. upon an er visit due to a diverticulitis problem they did a ct with and without contrast and found a spot in my liver which they are concerned of. i was told i needed to have an mri done. i don't have insurance, do not qualify for medicaid and both my parents have died due to liver cancer. can you please help?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
I can help by advising you to do MRI scan and check tumor markers, AFP, CEA and CA 199. In most cases these spots are just simple liver cysts or hamartomas which dont require any specific treatment. But considering diseases in your family it would be good to do these tests that i ve mentioned just to rule out the worst diagnosis. As an alternative, you can do CT scan which is cheaper but less accurate in diagnosing liver diseases. All in all, If you dont drink alcohol and dont have viral hepatitis i dont think that you should be afraid of tumors.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
