My wife has 32 weeks pregnancy and absent of csp. As per ultrasound in fetal medicine absent of csp would include holoprosencephaly, sod, and cortical abnormalities like lissencephalyAfter mri cavum septum pellucidium is not seen without any difinite signs of holoprosencephaly. There is optimal separation of bilateral cerebral hemispheres with separation of the thalami. The fetal ventricular system shows mild diffuse prominence mainly involving the frontal horns on both sides. The third and 4th ventricles appear non dilated.Though bilateral orbital regions don t reveal any difinite abnormality, the possibility of sod should be ruled out. They have taken sample of blood and urine for sod. The fluid label is under 15mm. What should I do next?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
hi., I understand your concern. Cavum septum Pallucidum is a septum present in brain while brain development- it allows normal brain growth. CSP is seen in USG of fetal brain during 18 -37 weeks of pregnancy normally. Absence of septum in this period suggests some fetal brain malformation. You should go for further investigations like specified sonography of fetal brain in conjunction with maternal serrum alpha feto protein screen The management should follow according to the results with expet guidance. Thanks.
