Hi! Im a 47 year old woman and i have been having and achy-ness in my heart area and back, shoulder and neck for the last couple of days. This has happened on and off for years and I have a headache with it today. Is this an emergency or something that can wait until Monday?

H,

It is unlikely to be an emergency. However, it is important to seek immediate medical attention if you are experiencing chest pain, as it could be a serious condition like a heart attack. If the pain is mild or moderate, you may be able to wait until Monday to see a doctor.

In the meantime, you can try some home remedies to help alleviate the pain, such as taking over-the-counter pain medication (e.g. ibuprofen, acetaminophen), applying a heating pad or cold compress to the affected area, practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation, and stretching or doing gentle exercises to relieve tension in the muscles.

However, if the pain is severe or accompanied by other symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or nausea, seek medical attention immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
