Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

I read your query and can understand your distress regarding your symptoms. From what you have mentioned, you seem to be having panic attacks. It is a condition when a person develops sudden anxiety associated with palpitations, sweating, tremors, etc. and feels that he may have an heart attack and die or he might become crazy.

You also seem remain preoccupied with the fear of developing further attacks as a result of which you remain more anxious when alone. You might also have fears of other situations like closed spaces or crowds. This is suggestive of Agoraphobia with panic disorder.

You should consult a psychiatrist for proper evaluation and initiating management. Taking alprazolam (alprax) alone will calm you down for some time but, will not take care of the disease. You would need treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors like sertraline or paroxetine. In addition, relaxation exercises like deep breathing and progressive muscular relaxation would also help.

Another option would be psychotherapy in form of cognitive behavior therapy in which regular sessions would be required which will focus on reducing anxiety and changing your thinking pattern.

Best wishes.
