Suggest Remedy For Bloating And Burning Sensation In Stomach After Splenectomy

I had a laparoscopic splenectomy 13 days ago for ITP. There was a small piece of Pancrease noted within the pathology. I have been healing well except for a burning, bloated, hyperactive stomach. I am eating small bites of crackers and drinking fluids but feel constantly hungry and full at the same time. Bowel movements are normal but little gas is passing compared to the rumbling feeling I have. What should I eat? Take over the counter?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Post splenectomy gastric upset indicate acute gastritis most likely. Following measures will help you:
- More liquid intake at intervals
- Diet without oily, spicy, non-veg
- Proton pump inhibitor as Rabeprazole with sips of water on empty stomach
- Antacid syrup as Mylanta or others

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
