Hello,

You have blood blisters on the shaft of the penis under the head. It is not itchy and it does not hurt but bleeds when popped. Sometimes, blood blisters occur due to friction more than anything. If sexually active use water based lubricants. You should wear soft cotton clothes and undergarments.

However, red blisters on the genital area is often associated with type 2 herpes virus infection. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a urologist. Get a viral culture of the blister done and be evaluated if you have herpes infection. Do not pick, scratch or drain the blisters, it is not recommended.

You can apply ointment Soframycin on the blisters, it will go away if it is not due to herpes or other STDs. You can apply Acyclovir ointment on the affected area if herpes or STDs is suspected. You will be treated with antibiotics / antivirals. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
