Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was stung or bitten by some insect on my left wrist on the underneath side/ Palm side. It turned slightly red and swelled a bit, but it has now turned a darkish brown color as if it were a bruise mark. I have been treating it with Campho-Phenique. It does not hurt; it only looks bruised. What other treatments should I be doing at this point ? Karen
As per your query you had insect bite that has turned red and there is swelling also . Sometimes allergic reaction occur due to insect bite . I would suggest you to look fir sting inside the wound and pick it out if there is any , wash your hand with soap , apply ice pack for 10 mins , apply a cream, gel or lotion to the injured area. Use products containing ingredients such as hydrocortisone, pramoxine or lidocaine to help control pain and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling . I condition doesn't get improve or get worse then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe anti histamine drug or antibiotics for 4-5 days .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
