Suggest Remedy For Burning Throat And Constant Cough Post Treatment For Nasal Infection

My throat is killing me. I had a nasal infection three weeks ago and started taking amoxicillin 10 days ago for one week. My nose is fine but my throat is still on fire and when I lay down I can not sleep for coughing up clear mucus. I only have a slight fever but everyone at work now has a bad sore throat and coughing. I can t see any white nodules or even redness in my throat. What can it be? I haven t slept well since this began and am now awake after 2 hours sleep.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There can be many reasons of cough and burning throat . s you mention that you had nasal infection and you took antibiotics for 10 days . Sometimes infection persist even after completing antibiotics course or there can be other factors which are playing role like acid reflux disease .

The symptoms like dry cough and sore / burning throat can also occur due to acid reflux disease also called GERD (gastroentestinal reflux disease ) . In this condition the upper sphincter of esophagus allow acidic content of stomach to come out of stomach into esophagus .

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear,nose,throat) and gastroentrologist also for proper evaluation of the condition . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test and test to check acidic content of esophagus.

Doctor may prescribe H2 blocker and antacid for acid reflux and further antibiotic course for throat infection .

For now do warm saline gargle several times a day and drink warm water having one spoon of honey twice a day .
