My ear has been clogged up for 5 days now, I have the antibiodic drops for my ears, today is day 4 of using them. Still it is clogged up and I cannot hear much. I have tried hot steamy showers to loosen the wax (if it's wax) I have done hot compressions, nothing. I sleep on the clogged ear hoping for drainage, nothing. I recently had a cold and do not know if it is related to that, however, I just want some suggestions from professionals on what to do next. I am trying to avoid a doctor bill. Thanks!
As per your complain clogging of ear can occur due to a few common causes like excessive wax buildup, fluid behind the ear drum, middle ear infection, blocked eustachian tube, common cold, sinusitis etc.. You can consult an Otolaryngologist an Otolaryngologist and get an Otoscopic examination done to rule out the exact cause of the clogging and treatment can be planned accodingly.. Infection can be treated with antibiotics, congestion due to fluid will be treated using decongestant nasal sprays while excessive wax buildup requires manual removal.. As of now you can use decongestant nasal sprays and steam inhalations and also do "Valsava Maneuvar" in which you should pinch your nostrils and close your mouth and try to gently blow air and many a times it tends to open up the blocked ear..
Hope this information helps..
