Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... I have had a sore throat on and off for two months with a bad cold. Cold went away, but throat is still sore on and off. Tired of going to doctor, just trying to gargle with Red Wine Vinegar, salt and warm water. When I spit up the solution, out came some web looking flum red in color....should I be concerned?
First of all, consult a doctor, preferably an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations, tests of blood, X-ray or CT scan of sinuses as this might be the primary cause. Also, watch for the factors, foods, beverages that instigate or enhance the problems and stop all these altogether. A course of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and antihistamine should help you. Do gargles with Povidone iodine. Red phlegm can be due to too much oedema in the pharynx. Your doctor would on examination can tell us more and get treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
