Suggest Remedy For Constipation Causing Marble Like Stools

My bowels have not moved since Thursday and had not moved much for two or three days before that. When I try, a few marble-like pieces come out, but I cannot get the large amount that seems to be there to exit. Other than enemas and suppositories, what do you suggest I do or take? My system has been very irregular for many years. Thank you. Larry: YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Your age and weight. Indeed, constipation is a common problem. However, u need to send in your age, weight, any assosciated diseases like Diabetes, drugs, obesity. Any attempt at weight loss which will reduce your food intake and water intake. Since u have already tried enemas and suppositories, i feel that it is a chronic problem. You could take more vegetables and fluids. They do not cause increase in weight. Please get a sigmoidoscopy done if u are more than 40 years. Also train yourself to go to the toilet everyday even if nothing comes as habit forming is an important aspect of management.
