Hi, I am a 53 year old female with underlying Celiac Disease and hypothyroidism. Five weeks ago I developed a hoarse voice, about three weeks later a constant dry cough, no other symptoms. I have been to see my primary twice, who is not concerned and made an ENT apt for next week. I am very anxious I have something serious. I do not smoke or drink and I don't have any pain or any other symptoms, just the hoarse voice and cough. I have never had heartburn or allergies or asthma. What could be causing this?
Hoarseness with dry cough is suggestive of laryngitis.Causes could be voice abuse, cold, reflux disease, occupational exposure to toxic chemicals.Start on steam inhalation, drink lots of water and consult ENT to rule out any pathology of vocal cords.
