Suggest Remedy For Difficulty In Breathing Caused By Mucus Blockage In A Patient With Sinusitis
Hi. I have Barrett s Esophagus and GERD; chronic sinusitis. LOTS of prolonged stress in my life and newer additional stresses. Other night, I could NOT breathe in nor out, as clear mucus / phlegm blocked my airways. I thought I was going to die or at least pass out. A recent Dr. visit showed no fluids in lungs, or anything abnormal, but then my irritations turned into the nightmare I just described, and makes me fearful. 63 y.o. male, 5 10.5 , @ 218#. Thx! According to what you have mentioned, the definitive treatment would be what the physician suggests after studying your whole case history and current symptoms. But at least what you can do to relieve the symptoms is take plain water steam inhalation for 5-10 minutes once / twice (depending how much you can tolerate).
Wear mask when outdoors or if excessive cold weather to prevent any precipitating factors. Also putting cotton buds in ear may help prevent cold / rhinitis due to weather changes. When symptoms worsens, try to sit in 45 degree inclined position and contact doctor as soon as possible.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nirali Thakkar, Pathologist and Microbiologist
