Suggest Remedy For Difficulty In Sleeping For An 13 Week Old Infant

hello, doctor ! I have a daughter of 13weeks old. Her sleeping quality is not good, difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep. When she is falling asleep, she tends to have a lot of witches, really a lot, as many as 30-50, lasting for maybe 1-2hours. She would wake up after midnight and cry. She falls asleep on her own without any sleep associations, so I don t think she wakes up for asking us to help her to go back to sleep. During daytime naps, she has mini naps and when she wakes up she will try to fall asleep again, but it seems something is hindering her from doing so. So she always turns her head to the left and to the right and repeat, her eyes are closed but couldn t fall asleep again. Due to frustration, she will burst into crying. She is sleep-deprived and overtired. Recently, she is also not feeding well, snack feeding and refuse to feed. She has less wet nappies and her poop is runny. What might be the cause of her sleeping problem ?

Hi,

Here are few suggestions:
- She might be underfed because she may not be sucking well due to some cold and nasal block. There might not be sufficient breast milk secretion also. I suggest to get both of you examined by your doctors to clear the possibility and find some other cause after needful investigations. Her sleep cycle is disturbed. She has short naps in day time to suffice her need so cannot sleep at night.

Try to change her sleep cycle by not allowing her to sleep in day time. Give her a good feed to satisfy her with breast milk or top feed as per the advice of her doctor. Keep her bed room quiet and comfortable with dim light and make her sleep by singing soft melodious songs with a needful midnight feed, after sufficient sleep.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
