General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
Your pharmacist and your doctor are both correct. Confused?? let me explain. Dextromethorphan is supposed to not be given in first trimester of pregnancy i.e upto 12 weeks. After that it is the drug given for dry cough. your pharmacist concerns are correct but that is only if you are in your first trimester. Since your pregnancy is 27 weeks it is safe to use.
Hope this helps,
Dr Arun A
