Suggest Remedy For Dry, Itchy And Discolored Area Around The Mouth

My daughter has a dark ring around her mouth the area is very dry and itchy and she licks it often which I know makes the area even darker. We ve used Vaseline, aquaphor, various organic and natural lip mousturizers, went to a dermatologist a few times but all without any success. What could be causing this?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of dry, itchy and discolored area around mouth which seems to be due to perioral dermatitis. Need not to worry about it, I would suggest you to use a broad spectrum antifungal and sunscreen, regularly, throughout the day. You have to apply Vitamin C and vitamin A in capsule form which you have to break open and apply once daily. You may also use a cream containing one or more of the pigment reducing agents like kojic acid, hydroquinone, glycolic acid. You should visit pediatrician and get it examined once to change the medication course and find alternative medication for fungal infection. Maintain hydration of your child. Keep area lubricated to prevent from cracking.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
