Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has a reddish dry patch of skin on his thigh. He went to a Walgreens clinic when it came up about two months ago. They told him ring worm, but it doesn t itch or burn. It hasn t gotten bigger or spread. He has been treating it but it is not going away. He doesn t have insurance and he is worried it might be some type of infection.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have dry patches on thigh . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like pityriasis rosea, discoid eczema ,ringworm , atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. It can also occur due to weather change . I would suggest you to clean the skin with soap and cold water and apply petroleum jelly and take over the counter anti histamine like bendryl twice a day . If condition doesn't get well in 1-2 days , then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may order skin patch test , allergy test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( clindamycin ) , anti fungal ointment or corticosteroid ointment . Keep there area dry and clean and wear loose cloths .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
