Suggest Remedy For Dull Knee Pain Due To Injury

My mom fell at her work and hurt her knee. She was admitted to the ER on 1/29/11. The x-rays revealed no fracture but her knee looks pretty bad, it's blue and purple and veeeery swolen. We just came from PT&R doctor who said she could return to work in a few days. No medications, nothing!!!Just ice and pein killers. Does she need to be seen by a cardiovascular physician? She had a vein surgery 3 years ago and is prone to blod clots. She sais that the pain is not too bad but is dull and constant.
