A week ago I discovered a rather large lump just below my earlobe. My doctor was fairly sure it was something which I forget (a condition that starts with a p ... He put me on an anti-biotic, told me to put warm compresses on it, and suck on sour candy (apparently to open what he thinks is a blockage of the salivary duct.). I;ve done this for 5 days, and I ll see him tomorrow. He hinted that he d be sending me to an ENT if it hasn t gone down or disappeared. Any insights? Comments?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain a large lump under the ear that you are diagnosed with seems to be due to swelling in the Parotid Salivary gland and the cause for the swelling can be either infection in the gland or it can be due to obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland due to either formation of stone within the duct or due to foreign body obstructing the duct orifice.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and he can advise you x ray or MRI of the salivary gland to confirm the cause.. In case of infection, it will get resolved with antibiotics but in case of obstruction in the duct by stone or foreign body either manual removal if it does not gets flushed out with saliva can be done.. In case if it is deep located stone surgical removal under assistence of Sialoscope that is an Endoscopic technique can help..
Hope this information helps..
