Suggest Remedy For Excessive Hair Loss When On Coumadin
I have been taking coumadin for 8 months now after having a pacemaker put in . Everything has been o.k. with it but over the past month I have lost a tremendous amount of hair; it comes out all day long and I have just filled a large freezer baggie with it. I am talking a large amount of hair; not small, not medium, but large. The coumadin is very closely monitored by the coumadin clinic at my hospital. If I change over to another medicine, how will that be checked out?
Hi. I understand your concern about hair loss. But, hair loss is a known side effect of warfarin (coumadin). here is the link for you http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Anticoagulants-warfarin-/Pages/Side-effects.aspx
I feel you should discuss the issue with coumadin clinic. If they find it appropriate and in your larger interest, coumadin might be replaced by other blood thinning agents. However, if thats not possible, consult a dermatologist. Medicines like minoxidil and Coenzyme Q10 might reduce hair loss. I would like to mention that hair loss due to warfarin is reversible. It means hair is going to come back when warfarin is stopped. Hope your queries are answered.
