Suggest Remedy For Excruciating Pain In The Fingertip And Fingernail

Starting 12/23/2010, I had excrutiating pain to my right index fingertip and fingernail. It was so bad that I thought it was going to burst. I tried to place it in epsom salt and hot water and even ice pack but both of these treatments made the pain even worse. The pain started on my right side of the nail bed edge. I have not injured my finger, nor have I bent my fingernail back. When you tap the end of the fingernail, it felt like I had had a small electric shock (as from an outlet). The pain has subsided now, however, the fingernail is still sensitive to touch. Now 12/26/2010, the right middle fingernail edge is starting to do the same thing. I keep rubbing it hoping it wouldn't start to hurt. The right ring finger fingernail edge is also trying to do the same thing. I am an RN, never had any problems. I do not bite my nails, nor do I file them or cut my cuticles. My fingernails do not have any raised areas or nodules, my finger did appear swollen and warm to touch. It is some type of inflammation, and I thought it might be a touch of gout, but it is not in my joints. What do you think?
