Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yesterday, I felt some body aches thru the day. Today, after noon, I started to have the urge for frequent urination, every 10-15 - 20 min., each time, very low urine outflow. with increasing discomfort up to "burning" sensation and a temp of 39C. I am 63. and I had similar severe symptoms in the summer of 2011. At that time I took a month of antibiotics. No other health issues, long or short term,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic. I'm sorry for your symptoms. I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
The way you describe your symptoms, it looks like you have an urinary tract infection. You have the classic symptoms of this condition, like urgency, burning sensation, low urine outflow.
Beside medication (that I will explain below) I recommend to drink a lot of fluids in order to dilute urine output, especially cranberry products. If the burning sensation is unbearable you might try a bladder analgecis like phenazopyridine (but just for 1 or 2 days in order not to mask the failure of treatment). Also you will need antibiotic therapy like ciprofloxacin.
I would like to highlight the fact that you have high temperature (39C). It might be a sign of upper urinary tract infection that needs more careful evaluation and treatment. In this case, I recommend to you to do some tests like: urinalysis, urine culture and ultrasound of kidneys and bladder.
Feel free for additional questions. I would like to advise you. Best regards and I wish you a good health.
Management involves: 1. Drinking lots of water (it dilutes the urine & reduces the burning sensation) 2. Antibiotics (such as Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice in a day) to tackle the causative organism. 3. Analgesic preparations (like paracetamol 500 mg three times in a day) to take care of the fever and body ache. One more thing, avoid acidic foods, carbonated drinks and alcohol & maintain good hygiene.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Take care.
