i have 2 mobile gallstones up to 19mm, no gallbladder wall thickening or biliary tree dilation. kidneys normal in shape and size, apart from mild mid pole scarring on the right. No abnormality seen in pancreas, liver or spleen. Comment: Cholecystolithiasis. No ultrasound evidence of cholecystitis or biliary tree obstruction. will i need surgery please? thank you
Hi there, Thanks for using HCM. The simple answer for your question is - No you do not need surgery at present.
What you have is asymptomatic gallstones with no evidence of cholecystitis. I say this because there is no gallbladder wall thickening or obstruction of the cystic or bile duct. The only definitive treatment for gallstones of the size of 19 mm is surgery. This can be done laparoscopically and this can be done when these stones cause symptoms in the form of severe continuous pain in the right upper quadrant or jaundice.
But since your ultrsound is not showing any evidence of cholecystitis or obstruction, you do not need surgery now.
