Suggest Remedy For Hyperactivity In A Child

Hello, my son is hyperactive, unfocused and very distructive ever since 2 years old.Now being 7 years we have had issues with him at school due to the hyperactivity, constant standing up from chair, walking around, rolling on the floor, disrupting the class, talking back(which improved over the time) and talking silly out of context..Now he is receiving OT services at school to help him out with his impulses and the hyperactivity. My son still has tantrums and of course is trying to talk out any discipline methods,he talks back sometimes incontinuesly and sometimes he accepts his consequences.Anyway lately more than ever he destroys things while working on some projects or when he is usually quiet and peaceful. It is not that kind of kid who gets angry and destroys things in rage but rather when he is emotionally fit and calm.Do you think it is just cheer curiosity and siliness connected to it or should I worry? He always destroyed things for no obvious reason,it almost resembles bored child but I can t stop to wonder how possibily can he be bored in the middle of a project(coloring, arts and crafts,etc..)?I can try to specify that he will usually pick on things like wall until there will be a hole,or purposely he will push a car against a wall just to see the crash or he will purposely run and bounce of the wall..stuff like that..He likes to climb on everything, counter, dressers, anything he can get on and the more we ask him not to do it the more he does it.He will look into your eyes and will do it right after you ask him not to.Complete disobedience. Now I am disciplining him and always give him consequences, time out and I am strict.Nothing seems to have long term effect, about 5 minutes or so..Is this maybe some form of his nature and curious silly boy or am I in denial?Thank you very much for your time and answer.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Usually amphetamines are used to treat such patients. Please see a psychiatrist clinician who will evaluate the case fully, take detailed history and do elaborate clinical examination. He will tailor a treatment protocol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
