Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I just got out of the hospital with congestive heart failure. . I am 5 10 , weighing 125 lbs. . My cardiologist have me on Lasix 40mg, digoxin, 125mcg, coreg3.125 (2x) aldactone25mg, & diovan40mg. I am losing weight & feel tired all the time. Should I be taking so much medication?
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern I would like to confirm you that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may be manifested wit hheart failure, and as such the prescribed treatment seems an appropriate option to mannage your situation. Those drugs do not look to be redundant. The only suspission could be about digoxin??!! I don't know your cardiac ultrasound report, but if your hypertrophis cardiomyopathy is associated with left ventricular outflow obstruction, that drug is not a good option and should not be used. Instead, apart taking coreg, other alternative options such as calcium channel blockers (like verapamil) or disopiramide may be appropriate. You just have to talk with your doctor. about that issue. Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
