Hi I had a mole removed and it is pus y and wet looking all the time, I was told to heal a wound and elimet scaring you sould keep it moisturised and coverd, but this is stoping the healing process and the drying out process so what do I do ? Do keep it moist but leave it uncovered or do I keep doing what I was told and hopefully it will heal. I have a slight redness ring around it. Is that a sign of healing or infection ? its on my right hand and gets knocked around a bit. Its also sometimes sore when moist. The others that were cut out seem to be healing faster with no cover over them. Thank you.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Going by your description the area seems to be infected, since the surrounding area is red and it is sore too. Re-epithelialization should normally takes about 7 days, slightly early if the wound is kept moist with the help of an ointment. If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on a course of an oral antibiotic e.g either Flucloxacillin Or Cephalexin for a week. Topically you may use an OTC antibacterial ointment e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily for a week. It would be better if you keep it open and covered with a thin layer of antibacterial ointment.
Regards
