Suggest Remedy For Injured And Bruised Toe Nail Oozing Clear Liquid

3 months ago i dropped a roasting pan on my big toe and broke it. The nail bruised but never fell off. My four year old just stepped on the same toe. Since then, there has been a clear fluid coming out from around the nail. Should I soak the toe in Epsom salt & water? Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms represent infection of the nail and nail bed. I would suggest you to visit your physician in order to check whether your infected nail has to be removed or not.You can also get back to us with pictures to assess the infection. Antibiotics should be taken to reduce the spread of infection. Pain killers can be taken if required. Kindly rule out any diabetes since uncontrolled sugar levels can delay the wound healing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
