Suggest Remedy For Itchy Scratch On The Leg With Discharge
I have about a 2 1/2 scratch on the outside leg by my knee. I has turned very red, very itchy and continues to ooze clear liquid. Tried using a raw potato poultice -- still all the same and oozing. What else can I do? I have two other areas that vere likely mosquito bites that I scratched too much and they are doing the same.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The itching itself has turned it red due to irritation and inflammation of skin. I see possibility of allergic reaction to mosquito bite and an exematous tendency. You can apply steroid skin ointment like Betnovate, over the counter. If no effect within 3 days, you need oral medicines after physical observation and examination. In that case, consult a skin specialist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
