I'm a 20 yr old male and I have severe keloid scarring on my chest region, shoulders and back. I was diagnosed with severe acne at 18 both on my face & chest. The doc prescribed steroid like drugs to supress it as I used to bleed in the chest region with a nasty mixture of pus and blood. I took them for like 6 months and the bleeding stopped but I was left with small keloids on my chest region. The doc recommended laser treatment saying it would significantly reduce the scarring. But all that treatment and the cash spent on the laser thing was fruitless, coz my keloids have gotten worse and are spreading and joining up with the smaller ones to produce larger nastier keloids which also give off a horrible stench. I have no idea what to do as it seems that it a incurable problem. It has hurt my social life very badly as I cant just wear a tshirt anymore but have to wear an extra layer of clothes underneath so that the scars don't show.
Keloids are best managed with intralesional steroids e.g intralesional triamcinolone acetonide. The depot injection causes breakdown of the excessive collagen tissue present in keloidal scar, thereby causing them to flatten.
The injection might be repeated after 3 weeks if required.
