Suggest Remedy For Lesion In Cauda Equina Without Surgery

I am 30 yrs of age. lower back pain starting from my hips down towards legs, started in april this year. Pain worsened at late nights. on 8th sept 2010, I had acute pain and restlesness. Bowels were disturbed for 6 days. Bladder was disturbed for 3 days. Now resumed. M R Imaging shows a lesion 70mm * 14mm at cauda equina, at L4, L5, S1 levels. C T scan does not show any calcification. A sign of small haemorrage also appears in the MRI. Doctors suggests surgery. Can surgery be avoided? Is it an emergency for surgery. I can move, walk, sit, lie down, but with pain. Some sort of numbness is also sensed down the right leg. Please Help
