Suggest Remedy For Lower Abdominal Pain When Suffering From Cyst In Ovary

Hi. I am a 53 year old post menopausal woman with a very small simple cyst on my right ovary (1.25cm). CA-125 test was apparently good but now I have had bouts of lower abdominal pain and diarrhea about once a week for the last two weeks. I am scheduled for another ultrasound of my abdomen and transvaginal ultrasound next week. If the cyst has not grown or shrunk, what would be the next steps to investigate why I have so much lower right quadrant pain (also radiates into my hip and back)?

Hi,

The pain in the right lower right abdomen that is referred to hip and back can be due to the following reasons:
- The most common cause I can think of is related to psoas muscle abscess. This is easily missed by an ultrasound unfortunately
- You need a CT scan or MRI of the abdomen and back involving the hips
- Tests of blood
- Clinical evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon and a general surgeon with reports can help for the diagnosis
- Another reasons can be colitis, typhlitis as these are not picked by an ultrasound
- Small simple cyst of the right ovary is not at all related to the lower abdominal pain
Get a proper diagnosis and thus get treated specifically for the cause found.
