Suggest Remedy For Numbness And Tingling In The Toes And Shin

I got hit in the shin by a softball about 4 weeks ago. It bruised instantly & turned black within a minute of being hit. About 4 minutes later my toes & shin became numb & tingly.. After that, I RICE(d) it as my trainer told me to do so, up until now. It s still got a big bump on it & hurts to the touch, but when I press on it, it s numb. Should I be worried? The bump is hard & there s a slight indent in my shin..

Hello,

Your bump is a hematoma that occurred under your skin on the shin of your leg. Numbness and tingling in toes and shin is mainly due to compression of nerve by the hematoma. The following are recommended for treatment of your bump on leg which are cold compress or ice pack application for 20 to 30 minutes for the 48 hours following injury to reduce swelling, rest, elevating your foot higher than your heart, light compression with a wrapped bandage.

Pain medication such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol), heat for 10 minutes three times daily for 48 hours following the injury to increase blood flow. Please do not use aspirin or ibuprofen as they interfere with blood clotting. It must be resolved in a couple of weeks. If the swelling persists even after 2 weeks or increases in size, what are to be suspected are fracture of underlying bone and any other tumor of bone. If the hematoma persists even after 2 weeks, please do consult a physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
