Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to Puerto Rico a week ago. Monday of last week I got a very bad sun burn on my lower calf. I m fair skinned and I think the spray sunscreen I used didn t cover all of the areas. It swelled up and was painful and warm to the touch. I kept putting aloe, cold compresses and soaking my leg. The swelling is all but gone and the pain too. Just about 2 hours ago I started getting pins and needles in the area. They are not severe but as each hour passes they are becoming more intense. Should I be concerned?
The pins and needles after calf swelling from sun exposure issue suggests photo sensitivity most likely. The receptors of the skin do vary sensitivity according to the skin texture, temperature variance and other parameters. An ice application for a period of 2-3 days will help to revert the issue back within short period of time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
