Suggest Remedy For Pain Due To Plastic Applicator Being Stuck Above The Tampon

My daughter has just returned from a school trip, during her time away she used a tampon with a plastic applicator on half of which became stuck inside her above the tampon. A member of school staff told her it was impossible so she spent 36 hours in agony and eventually managed to remove it but is still feeling pain as a result. Should she visit ourGP?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the retained tampon with plastic applicator is a surgical emergency.

* It is best recommended to consult her primary care for methodical removal of the tampon before it becomes a possible cause of staph aureus infection or possible Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
