Suggest Remedy For Pain In Arm After Cannula Palcement
I was in hospital the other day unfortunately and I had a cannula placed in my left arm at the elbow joint and it wasn't placed in properly as it was absolutely painful and i believe has admaged something cause everytime i stretch out my arm now I get almost like a sensation of lightning strikes go shooting down to my wrist which never happened before?? Is this strange or going to go away???
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of pain sensations in arm after cannula placement is because of injury to peripheral nerve. Due to this injury you have sensitivity to touch or pain even stretching your arm which is otherwise not painful. As you had severe pain while cannula placement as well so nerve was stuck directly by the needle. A nerve injury resulting from the insertion of an IV cannula is uncommon but it is preventable. Ii will normally recovers over time a few weeks or months without treatment. Apply ice on area of inflammation.
If it keep son persisting then visit general practitioner once as it could be due to deep injury to nerve then and surgery is the treatment option in that case.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
