Suggest Remedy For Pain In Ear

My son just got a soccer ball slammed against his ear. He is complaining of pain and feeling as if his ear is stopped up. He likens it to swimmer's ear or being under water. Could he have had a severe trauma to his ear or is he just suffering the normal shock of the blow?
