Suggest Remedy For Pain In Leg Due To Metal Plate

My son is in Alberta working in remote camp area, he needs to see a doctor. He has a metal plate in his right leg (8 in with 9 screws in it), he is in a lot of pain and can barely walk on it. Surgery was in Jan of 2012. He does not have a family doctor out there, what can he do, or who can he go see to have his leg checked.
