Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i fell down the stairs of my house and bruised the left side on my ribs. the bruise was medium size and now the bruise is almost gone but when I make sudden movements is still hurts and it is uncomfortable to sleep. Although is getting better. I work 8 hours walking most of the time and have not gotten any long rest since the fall 2 weeks ago. How long before I start feeling better
If you hurt your ribs badly and it there is pain on breathing then it might help to seek emergency treatment and get a x ray of the chest done to make sure that you do not have any serious injury.
If you do not have pain on breathing then it is a mild injury and there is no need to worry for it. It is probable that the soft tissues have got mild injury and this should heal in 2 weeks.
You can apply ointments containing muscle relaxant and pain relief medicine. This is to be gently applied over the hurting area. There will be initial burning but soon you will start feeling better.
A heat pad can be applied over the hurting area to decrease the inflammation.
If the pain persists with above treatment then taking oral pain relief might help. Please avoid doing heavy physical activity for 2 weeks. Please do not worry.
