Suggest Remedy For Pain In Right Knee

I had twisted my right knee in a fall the day after Christmas and 2 weeks later it began to hurt with a sharp pain on the outside of my right knee. Now it is aching a lot. I should get it looked at I know but in the meantime I don't know whether to ice it at this time or put moist heat on it. Maybe I tore a ligament or tendon.
I have no way to pay right now so I guess I can't use this service. Can you recommend a website on line
