Suggest Remedy For Pain In The Hamstring Area And Buttocks

I have some pain in my right hamstring area as well in the right buttocks. I seem to notice it more when I am driving or sitting in a certain position for an extended period of time. I have been told it is probably associated with a lower back issue related to some nerve ending. Ice seems to give me some relief. I have had this problem for a couple of months but I am still able to workout and do a lot of biking without any problems. Any advice as to some method of eliminating this health problem would be greatly appreciated. Herniated disk ?. MRI ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the hamstring radiating down the back of the leg is commonly due to a medical condition called Sciatica. Pain in the buttocks can be related to sciatica.

You are suggested to get clinically assessed by a GP. Get Nerve Conduction tests & Nerve Biopsy done. Get treated at the earliest.

Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are spine osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, bulging or ruptured disc, etc.

The treating doctor may tell you to do CT, MRI to rule out certain medical conditions that may cause you discomfort.

In the meantime take vitamin B6, B12 & mineral supplements. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. You can take NSAIDS for pain relieve.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
